Joseph Steele Jr

 

        Joe is the son of Joe Sr. and Eva Steele, he graduated from GHS in 1962. Joe and his wife Sue are the proud parents of Kim, Stacey, Joe III, Bill, Chrissy, Krystal, Heather, and Sammy Joe. They have 19 Grandchildren. His siblings Connie, Tom, Bill and Susan, all attended Goshen Schools.

        While a student at Goshen High he lettered all four years in Volleyball, Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Track. Joe earned all conference status in both Football and Basketball as a Senior. He also was a member of the Year Book Committee and the Drama Club.

       Joe has been a member of the following community service organizations over the years: Goshen Athletic Boosters, Goshen Music Boosters, and Heisler Park Board.            He has served as a youth coach in Baseball, Softball and Football. He has also assisted quite often at the annual Fish Fry at the Goshen United Methodist Church where he has been a member for 73 years.

      Joe was nominated for his work at Goshen High football games and his service to the Goshen Community. He has been a member of " The Chain Gang " for the past 43 years ! He claims to have only been knocked down one time. Joe considers himself fortunate to have been a part of the chain gang along with so many other great individuals over the years including: Ed and Keith Bailey, Jim Spreen and Joe's sons Joey and Bill are currently on the sidelines as well. Joe remembers fondly the year 1960, when he and the GHS Football Team helped install the first real grass turf on the football field. His father Joe Steele Sr. was a member of the Board of Education at that time.

      Joe enjoys spending time with his wife Sue, as they attend functions at Goshen Schools and Great Oaks Vocational Schools. They also enjoy camping, however the majority of their time is spent watching their children and grandchildren participating in sporting events and school activities.

      Family and God are the most important things in Joe’s life. He feels truly blessed to have so many loving and caring people in his life. He is honored to be inducted into the 2018 Goshen High School Alumni Hall of Fame.
