Association Newsletter

 

     Wonderful News! The Goshen High School Alumni Association finished reproducing the class photos from 1928-1974 and 1990-2001. They are hanging in the high school lobby in a rotating rack. You will be able to check them out during this year’s banquet or any other time the building is open. Unfortunately, no class portraits were created from the years 1975-1989 and recreating them from yearbooks and Fugett’s records will be our next project. If your senior picture did not make it in a yearbook, or if you had another photographer, please contact Joyce Croley at historian@goshenalumni.com to be included in your class. The class photos are also being posted on our webpage goshenalumni.com under the school history link. We are still working on the class pages but most of them have the class photos.

     We have also received permission to post plaques of our Hall of Fame members in the high school lobby. We are collecting biographies and photos of our Hall of Famers as a first step in creating a lasting tribute to the wonderful people who have made us so proud of Goshen High School.

     If you are a family member or close friend of any of our Hall of Famers, we would appreciate receiving any information and photos about them to post on our web page and for the Hall of Fame project at the high school. You can look at the Hall of Fame link on our web page for a list of all current members and a form to nominate anyone you feel deserves to be in our Hall of Fame. 

  The GHS Alumni Association is pleased to announce that John Libbee, Phillip Fant and Lloyd Heisler will be inducted into the Goshen High School Hall of Fame this year. Phil Fant GHS Class of 1989 is a graduate of West Point and currently in law enforcement. John Libbee taught at GHS from 1959-1999. Lloyd Heisler is a former teacher and loyal community supporter. We hope that you will join us on May 12th as we honor these outstanding inductees.

     2012 GHS Alumni News 

 

      The Goshen High School Alumni Association will be having its 114th annual alumni banquet on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Goshen High School. The evening will begin with a Friendship Hour at 4:00 pm in the Goshen High School lobby. Appetizers and beverages will be provided by alumni officers during the Friendship Hour. The Friendship Hour is free for anyone wishing to attend. Dinner will follow the Friendship Hour and begins at 6:30 pm. The dinner cost is $12.50 per person.

      This year, we will honor the classes of 1962, 1967, 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2002, and 2012. We need one member of each honored class to introduce their class members. If you are a member of one of the honored classes, please volunteer to introduce your class members. If you would like to be the representative for your class, please contact Candy Meadors @513-310-2626.

     During the banquet, we will be inducting our Hall of Fame members Lloyd Heisler, Phillip Fant and John Libbee, as well as presenting our scholarships to this year’s winners. Last year, eight recipients received scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each. The deserving graduates were Katie Albers, Ryan Clift, Tiffany Dority, Trenae Johnson, Gary Parriman, Brent Steele, Corrinne Whitley, and Chelsea Hauser.

      Our scholarships vary from year to year, depending upon the donations we receive from our alumni and money donated by Kathryn Marr’s Estate. The money was given to the school district to distribute to the alumni association in the form of scholarships since we weren’t a 501(C)(3) organization. We are happy to announce that due to the hard work of Mark Slagle and Tim Moore that we have recently completed the application process to become a 501(C)(3) organization. This will allow us to receive funds directly from estates and make alumni donations tax deductible.

      To honor the memory and generosity of Kathryn Marr, we donated money to the Kathryn Stagge Marr Community Park to help create a children’s  play area. Joe Spaulding requested help spreading the news about the project. Please join the alumni association and send a donation to the LCNB in her honor.

      We would also like to thank Sue Holt, who is stepping down as treasurer, after many years of serving in this position. She continues as an important member of the alumni association and will assist Tim Moore as he transitions into the position of treasurer.

      We would like to welcome two new active members this year. Mary Jones Butts, and Cathey Harvey Montgomery, members of the Class of 1969. Cathey has been spending hours looking for our lost grads and collecting information for our database. Mary will head our Facebook page when it is revealed in the fall. If you would like to become an active member, just show up at a meeting. There are no fees, dues or forms. Just show up and jump into any project that interests you or just join a committee and voice your opinion. We meet the second Sunday, January, February, March, April, October and November at 2:00pm at the Goshen Township Hall.

      While researching the school history and class page information, we discovered that we don’t have copies of some yearbooks. If you have a copy of 1952, 1953, 1956, 1961, 1966, 1967, 1975, 1976, 1980, 1983 or 1985, please contact us so we can make a copy or scan for our records. We are also looking for school building photos of all eras. We especially need a good clear photo of the 1961 high school building. If you have photos of your class or any reunion photos, please contact us too, so we can include them on your class pages.

      Please look at your envelope and check the addressed information. If you do not have a graduation year listed on the second line, please contact Joyce Croley at 937-783-4329 or by email at historian@goshenalumni.com. If the name or address is misspelled, addressed to a deceased family member or an adult child no longer living at your house, or any other problem, please let us know. If you now have an email address, we would also like you to send us that information too. Not too far in the future, we will have to send out our newsletter by email and will need your email address.

Dinner Reservations

      You may request dinner tickets by enclosing your requests with a check for the dinner(s). Please include your graduation year on your check. If you would like to have your dinner tickets mailed to you, please enclose a SELF-ADDRESSED STAMPED ENVELOPE. You may contact Candy Fisher Meadors ONLY for dinner tickets @513-310-2626 in the evening or weekend hours. THE DEADLINE FOR REQUESTS FOR DINNER TICKETS IS MAY 5TH, 2012. All checks for dinner tickets should be made out to the GOSHEN HIGH SCHOOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION.
